On the occasion of the anniversary of the8 March, the Multimedia Museum of the 500 “Dante Giacosa” pays homage to all the women, of yesterday and today, who have contributed to “making great” the small twin-cylinder, offering free admission on Friday 08/03/2024.
Our thoughts go above all to how many, particularly at the end of the 50s, when the 500 made its debut on the roads, used it for study, work and family needs with a desire for freedom and independence probably even greater than men, because in the twenty years in which our beloved little car was the protagonist, there was certainly no lack of profound social changes that concerned the role of the so-called "other half of the sky". And if even today we still have to discuss equal opportunities and rights that are valid only on paper, the 500 fortunately guarantees satisfaction and entertainment without distinction of sex. Those who come to the Museum in this period can admire a special showcase, romantic and carefree, curious and colorful, set up with a special eye on women, with models, books, vintage magazines, postcards and various objects selected from the rich collection of the "Dante Giacosa". Don't be fooled by the perhaps slightly coquettish overall impression: the thought also goes to the brave pilots (like Liliana De Menna) and to all those who, with competence and passion, know how to competently get their hands on engines, disproving every hard-to-die cliché, up to the engineers and other professional figures who have been able to assert themselves in fields still considered purely male.
