On Saturday 5th November the conference “Italian motorisation from the post-war period to the economic miracle” took place, organised by ASI, AISA and Fiat Register.
In the courtyard of the prestigious Villa Rey in Turin (ASI headquarters) they made a fine show of themselves the three Fiat 500s made available by Renato Breusa, Duilio Nano and myself, as well as a Fiat 500C, an Iso Isetta and a unique little car built in the 50s by an engineer from Modena, with a practically unknown history, of which ASI is also seeking information to reconstruct its origins.
The day was opened by the welcome of the Federal Councillor ASI Anthony Cross and by the president of the Fiat Register Edward Magnone, who then passed the word to the AISA president Lorenzo Boscarelli. In his speech he illustrated a socio-political cross-section from 1946 to today, through data and graphs that allowed us to reflect on how much progress has been made in recent years, in terms of quality of life, infrastructure and vehicles in circulation.
The second intervention was of lorenzo morelli of the ASI, who talked about the first studies for the economic cars of large diffusion, illustrating proposals both of coachbuilders and of the big industry starting from the post-war period, until arriving to a precise analysis of our beloved Fiat 500 and of what it represented for our nation. The speech addressed both the production processes and the theme of the growing Italian well-being of the period under examination.
Luca Manneschi of ASI instead analyzed the mass motorization by means of two wheels, illustrating motorcycles, micromotors for bicycles, light motorcycles and scooters. His expertise brought us stories and events of prestigious brands, up to the Vespa and Lambretta. Of our famous scooters he also told the singular advertising campaigns and industrial events.
The conference was moderated by Donatella Biffignandi. The pleasant and prestigious cultural morning was followed by an interested and very participating audience. Also present were our regional representative for Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta Michael Gallione and the technical commissioner Enrico Bo. We thank ASI for hosting us.
