Mission accomplished. The road safety days “Crescere Sicuri” are back in style after the 2024 edition in “reduced format” and the stop due to the pandemic. A return with an important novelty, namely a culinary contest, and an interesting focus on public transport. But let's go in order.
The event took place on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th April and, in addition to the Club and Museum, it involved the Traffic Police and Office III Territorial Area of Savona – USR Liguria. The latter, which those who are a few years older will remember with the name of "Provveditorato agli Studi", was also the recipient of the "Crescere Sicuri" award for its role of support and consultancy to schools for the planning and innovation of the educational offer in synergy with all the realities of the territory (as stated in the motivation for the award). The director collected the plaque Nadia Dalmasso together with Alexandra Fenoglio, who personally followed the organization of the event.
This year it was decided to invite older children, thus targeting the First and Second Grade Secondary Schools (Middle and High Schools), whose students are already very active road users on two and four wheels, considering the drivers of microcars and real cars if they already have a driving license. At the same time, for High Schools only, the “Young people tell the story of the 500” competition, whose awards ceremony took place on Friday with great enthusiasm from the participants.
The schools involved were: the IC Albenga I – Via degli Orti and the IC Albenga II – Leca for Middle School; the IIS Boselli-Alberti-Mazzini-Da Vinci of Savona, the IIS “Giovanni Falcone” of Loano and the IIS “Giancardi Galilei Aicardi” of Albenga-Alassio for High School. In particular, the “Giancardi” Hotel School experienced the event in a special way. In fact, the students studying tourist reception acted as chaperones for their “colleagues” from other schools, so that they could move easily between the various points of Garlenda where the activities took place, as well as proposing a fun educational game on the theme of “Hotel 500”. Their “dining room” and “kitchen” companions, on the other hand, prepared Thursday’s lunch, which took place in the Institute’s hall, with a menu whose delicious dishes were voted on by the guests – authorities, event staff and various guests – who had to choose between the Red Brigade and the Green Brigade. Not an easy choice, given the goodness of the dishes and everyone’s commitment.
The activities proposed in Garlenda were:a guided tour of the “Dante Giacosa” (with the first 500 registered to the Club as guest of honour, namely the L of the founder Domenico Romano) and the meeting with Tpl, which in addition to having guaranteed shuttles for students between Albenga and Garlenda, has, through its own general manager Giampaolo Rossi, spoken about the company and in general about the role of public transport in the area. Again, in Borgata Ponte there were exhibits Traffic Police vehicles and in the municipal gym, Commander Pino Fusco and his collaborators, with the help of photos and films, brought to the attention of the children the causes and consequences of road accidents, which today more than ever are caused by the distraction of drivers and a frenetic lifestyle that leads us to put the protection of lives in second place.
“Crescere Sicuri” was sponsored by the Municipalities of Garlenda and Alassio and the sponsorship of Calizzano Water and Bruno Basso (who, as in past editions, kindly offered the Award plaque).
