PARADE AND EXHIBITION IN ST. PETER'S SQUARE FOR THE EVENT DEDICATED TO HISTORICAL MOTORING
The jubilee year in full swing has given many ideas to offer a theme also linked to historic motoring. ASI, Automotoclub Storico Italiano, has in fact celebrated “A Century of Jubilee with Historic Cars” in reference to the seven jubilee years of the last century, those of 1900, 1925, 1933, 1950, 1975, 1983 and 2000. A century characterised by the birth and rapid development of motorisation which, as underlined by President of ASI Alberto Scuro, “It has contributed decisively to the union of peoples. It has made pilgrimage possible, the journey of the soul, transforming it into a more accessible, more concrete experience. The automobile has allowed millions of people to reach sacred places, destinations of reflection, faith, culture. In this Jubilee,” added Scuro, “we celebrate not only the history of the vehicles that we proudly preserve, but also the history of the people who drove them and who today preserve them for posterity. The vehicles have become a symbol of an era in which borders were shrinking, distances were bridged and cultures were brought closer together.”
The ASI event on Saturday 31 May – included in the official programme of the Major Events of the Jubilee 2025 and with the patronage of Roma Capitale, FIVA (Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens), RAI and Il Messaggero – brought to Rome a selection of historical models among which those from important collections stood out, such as that of the National Automobile Museum (MAUTO), from the Nicolis Museum of Veronaand Nicola Bulgari Foundation of Rome and of the Alfa Romeo Museum Cozzi Brothers from Legnano (MI). They were the 12 Fiat 16/1902 HP, the 1911 SGV Lancia Beta, the 75 Cadillac 1938 (which served in the Vatican with Pope Pius XI) and the 1995 Alfa Romeo RZ.
Other notable participating cars were a 6 Alfa Romeo 1948C Pininfarina, a 303 Cisitalia 1950 DF, a 140 Jaguar XK 1955 OTS. Leading the procession was the 1500 RAI Fiat 1966 used at the time for road radio commentary of the Giro d'Italia cycling race.
The group of cars moved from the Gianicolo to reach Via della Conciliazione and then Piazza San Pietro in the Vatican, where the special exhibition was set up that attracted the interest and curiosity of thousands of people, including tourists and pilgrims. For this procession Only bio-petrol is used second generation, since the event was included in the ASI Net Zero Classic program which has among its objectives the neutralization of the carbon balance in a concrete, scientific and transparent way.
In addition to the Councilors of Rome Capital Mariano Angelucci (President of the Commission for Sport, Tourism, Fashion and International Relations) and Julia Storm (President of the Budget Committee) attended the event on General Tullio Del Sette, Extraordinary Commissioner of the Automobile Club Italia: “A truly exciting day – commented Del Sette – we traveled through the centre of Rome in cars that recall the jubilee years of the last century and together with the President of ASI we talked about the cooperation that we can undertake and I believe that it will be wonderful in the coming weeks to be able to sign an agreement between ASI and ACI Storico.”
